This is how Ayurveda started

Who might be the doctor of gods? Who would treat gods like human? This topic is as interesting as it is $tr@nge. Do gods need doctors too?

According to some mythology, one of Bishnu’s form ‘Dhanwantari’ has been mentioned as the doctor of heaven. Dhanwantari is known as the god of Ayurveda and has 4 arms. One arm has pitcher of nectar, second has shell, third has chakra and fourth has leech. Dhanwantari had taken the responsibility of hiding the pitcher of nectar under the sea for security between god and demons. After another form of Bishnu shared the nectar, rest was also given to him for the benefit of gods and he was even recommended to use it in the favor of gods.

He is also the god who taught ayurveda. It is said by mythology. According to it. he wrote many books Nighantu and Dhanwantari which are the two most Ayurveda books. Some common diseases and their sure have been mentioned in the book. Dhanwantari has written cure to different diseases like Sinus, piles and what to do in case of poisoning and humans are still unaware about some of the diseases. The descriptions of the medicines is also mentioned in the book. He has even written the 5 stage of treatment in the book.

1. Cure, or the cure of disease before the signs of it are shown. 2. Second, The act of Purwa Rupa has been mentioned in it. This is the stage where the first signs of a disease are seen. 3. Third stage, “Rupa’. In this stage all the sings of a disease are seen. 4. Fourth stage is based on the cure of a disease. After knowing all the signs, treatment is done by caring about medicine, food etc. 5. Fifth stage is called samprapti. This stage is where the patient is resting while a disease is being treated and it is mentioned in the book.
